Project Management Framework
Initiation - Project Statement

Definition

The project statement is a one-sentence description of what the project will do, when it will be done and how much it will cost.

Why is this important?

The project statement provides a quick, simple introduction to the project and sets the context for the remainder of the charter document.

Instruction

The project statement will evolve as the project charter evolves. It will start as a rough statement of intent and become more focused as the project becomes better defined. Before the charter is finalized, the statement should be finalized to include the three key elements: a statement of the action or end result, projected completion date and how much the project will/can cost.

How to scale

Regardless of the size of the project it is important to limit the Project Statement to a single sentence. Its purpose is to explain quickly what the project is, when it will be done, and what it costs.
